The Acceptance Testing phase is all too often treated as a formality. Usually the last testing stage is seen by many to be little more than a rubber stamp or confidence test on behalf of the Business community. The reality can be far different.

Acceptance Testing is vital in proving that any system delivery is usable and meets the agreed business requirements.
In many cases it will be the first time that end users have seen the system. Not suprisingly it is not uncommon for them to find major faults in a system which has supposed to have been tried and tested.
Users may discover significant mismatches between the specified requirements and the actual system delivered. Any mismatches will be expensive to correct should time permit
All too often a system is handed over to users with little testing knowledge or experience. Unsupported they will not be able to test comprehensively and an inadequate system is accepted.
